I am Jennifer Young, an emerging professional classical soprano. This blog serves as a diary of my experiences auditioning, performing and just living as a singer. I’m based in Princeton, New Jersey with my astrophysicist husband and our two cats.

I love all classical singing, but my special passions include art songs of the Romantic era and later, particularly unusual or obscure repertoire. I am especially enamored of the art songs of early 20th-century France (Poulenc & co.), and Baroque music also occupies a special place in my heart. Listening to Bach is like having a deep-tissue massage done on my soul— highly therapeutic.

Sonnenatmenden Erde is a phrase from one of my favorite Richard Strauss songs, named Morgen!. It means “sunbreathing Earth.”
